It's the little things in life

My friend Nicole came over for dinner the other evening, something so simple yet difficult as we all seem to be so busy between raising children and working and life in general, time seems to be the most precious thing in our lives these days. With the best of intentions and promises to make more time for ourselves and each other, it seems to be the one thing that constantly eludes us... we need to make more of an effort.. and the years go by and we promise.. this year now we'll make more of an effort to see each other more often.. and the year ends and another starts and we say the same thing, so maybe 2011 is the year to change the trend and ACTUALLY come good on our promise. Otherwise before we know it we'll be in our 60's and thinking, we should have made more time for ourselves.

Girlfriends are the most joyous thing God gave us women. When the chips are down, they are there with a hug and a tissue and a comforting word. When we're riding high they're there with us enjoying the good times. They mind your bag while you run to the loo, they have your back when the latest bastard cheats on you, they defend you to the death, they laugh at you when your being ridiculous..they'll cry with you,  they'll be honest about what your wearing but let you down gently, they'll lend you their last ten euro.. they trust you with their kids.. that must be the ultimate compliment.. and they are only a phone call away 24 hours a day.

So ladies, just to let you know, I appreciate you.. you know who you are! xxx

Things that go bump in the night

I was home alone last night. My housemate went to Dublin to stay with her boyfriend for a few days. I know it's completely psychological because I rarely wake during the night when there's someone else in the house, but I was wide awake at 5am listening to see f I could hear anyone creeping about downstairs!!! What the hell is THAT about? Does It stem from childhood when our misguided parents attempted to get us to stay in our beds with the threat that if you dared to venture out of it in the middle of the night, the boodyman (some strange mythical creature out to do as much evil as possible in the hours of darkness) would be lurking in the shadows waitng to grab you! Now, I realise there are of course those who ARE out to cause harm and destruction under the cover of darkness but what convinces me that they would pick MY house over the hundreds of thousands in this city?

Of course it's always just as you are about to drop off to sleep again that the house suddenly makes a creaking sound that doesn't sound familiar and your up boltright in the bed "what the **** was that?" well, my Mom always says 'best to know the truth, than imagine the worst'... In other words, get up and check if there's anyone there rather than spend the rest ofthe night quivering under the covers... A wise woman!! So I did, and of course there was no one there, but it was the scariest minute of my life. I'm tellng ya something, when I get my new house, I'm gonna have gates, I already have the high Walls, an alarm, internal keys for ALL the doors and a big baseball bat... Word of warnng friends, don't come surprising me in the middle of the night... If ye value ye're lives.

Welcome to my blog!

So I finally got around to writing my first post, 3 days after beginning to set up my page!

That's the first glimpse of what my life is like when I'm at work..  one second I'm designing my
blog page.. next I'm weaving in and out of traffic at speed, cursing at moronic drivers, poking someone with a needle for something or other, then back to my blog page again... then out the gap again.. it's a bit annoying when I'm trying to do something. It reminds of Sandra Bullock in 'Miss Congeniality' when she hits the bonnet of the car and shouts 'Hey! .. I'm WALKING here'.. haha.. love that movie. Next time the phone rings at work and I'm on here, I'd love to shout into the phone 'Hey!... I'm BLOGGING here'!!! I'd probably get fired though.

It's a beautiful sunny Sunday morning here in Youghal, frrreeeezzziiinng cold though... I'm tired of scraping ice off the windscreen of my car in the mornings.. on the plus side, the dawn was beginning to break at 7:40 this morning so Spring is on the way...Yippee!

But First... I am off to Italy next Saturday morning on holidays for a week. More on that later..

Have a great day, wherever you are.
